History
1990 World Series – Oakland Athletics vs. Cincinnati Reds
The 1990 World Series was a rematch of the 1972 Fall Classic won by the A’s in six games.  Cincinnati absolutely dominated the National League West division, becoming just the second team is baseball history (1984 Detroit Tigers) to lead their division from the start of the season to the end, a.k.a. “wire-to-wire.”  Oakland was the defending champion and were playing in their third consecutive World Series.  Good friends Tony LaRussa and Lou Piniella managed the A’s and Reds respectively, and this series would be over real quick.
Cincinnati had home field advantage, and they immediately jumped out to a 2-0 first inning lead behind Eric Davis’s two-run home run, and Reds’ pitcher Jose Rijo settled down to shutout the A’s 7-0 for the Game 1 win.
Game 2 was the last World Series game played at Cincinnati’s Riverfront Stadium, and the Reds didn’t disappoint their home fans, winning 5-4 in ten innings on Joe Oliver’s RBI single.  With a 2-0 series lead, the Reds flew west to Oakland to finish their business.
Game 3 was the Chris Sabo show.  The Cincinnati third baseman homered in the second inning and again in the Reds seven-run third inning, and suddenly Oakland was down 8-3 after just three innings.  That score would hold up and Cincinnati was now just one win away from sweeping the A’s.
Game 4 was a pitchers duel between A’s starter Dave Stewart and Reds’ starter Jose Rijo, and Oakland held a 1-0 lead in the top of the eighth when Cincinnati pushed two runs across for a 2-1 lead.  Rijo retired 20 straight batters before he left after eight innings, and Randy Myers pitched a perfect ninth inning as the Reds won 2-1, completing the series sweep and capturing their fifth World Series title in franchise history.  Outfielder Billy Hatcher set a World Series record with 7 consecutive hits, and helped extend the Reds World Series winning streak to 9 games.
Cincinnati Wins 4-0
For the series, the Reds outscored the Athletics 22-8 and outhit them 45-28.  Hall of Famers included for Cincinnati: shortstop Barry Larkin; and for Oakland: pitcher Dennis Eckersley and outfielder Rickey Henderson.
Tomorrow: 1990 World Series – Minnesota Twins vs. Atlanta Braves

Trivia
Today’s Question:  What was the nickname given to the three relief pitchers Norm Charlton, Randy Myers, and Rob Dibble on the 1990 World Series winning Cincinnati Reds?

Yesterday’s Question:  Who managed the 1989 Oakland Athletics in their World Series win?
Answer:  Tony LaRussa

House Bet
Today:  Over/Under 1 hit by Washington outfielder Denard Span today vs. Atlanta as he attempts to extend his hitting streak to 29 games.
Yesterday: Over/Under 16 combined strikeouts by Zack Greinke and Patrick Corbin in the Dodgers-Diamondbacks game today.
