History
1994 World Series – Cancelled
The 1994 World Series was cancelled on September 14th due to an ongoing labor strike by the Major League Baseball Player’s Union.  It marked just the second time since 1904 that the World Series was cancelled.  The first World Series was played in 1903, but in 1904 baseball was run by a governing body and the National League did not recognize the upstart American League as viable competition.  The two pennant winners could agree to play a World Series, but the National League champion New York Giants and their owner John T. Brush stated in early July that if his Giants won the pennant they, in defiance, would not play the American League champion.  In January 1905, stung by criticism, Brush adopted rules that both leagues agreed to, thus creating what we know today as the World Series
Tomorrow: 1995 World Series – Cleveland Indians vs. Atlanta Braves

Trivia
Today’s Question:  What year did a player’s strike threaten to cancel the World Series before the season was salvaged and the two leagues agreed to a playoff between the first half of the season leader would play the second half leader, with the winner advancing to the World Series?

Yesterday’s Question:  Whose all-time career record did Alex Rodriguez beat when he hit his 24th grand slam home run Friday?
Answer:  Lou Gehrig
