1982 World Series – Milwaukee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Haled the “Sud Series” citing both cities’ history of beer production, the 1982 World Series featured the power hitting Milwaukee Brewers against the pitching strong St. Louis Cardinals.
The series started on a Tuesday night in St. Louis, and Brewers pitched Mike Caldwell pitched a complete game 4-0 silenced the home crowd.  The Cardinals rebounded in Game 2 with a 5-4 win to tie the series, and Games 3, 4 and 5 moved to Milwaukee for the weekend.
On Friday night, Cardinal outfielder Willie McGhee broke open Game 3 with a three-run home run in the fifth, and St. Louis stole home field advantage back with a 6-2 win in Game 3.  The Brewers responded in Game 4 on Saturday with a six-run seventh inning to bust open Game 4, and tied the series at two.  Crucial Game 5 was played Sunday afternoon, and Brewers shortstop Robin Yount tied a World Series record with his second four-hit game, and Mike Caldwell pitched another complete game as Milwaukee won 6-4 and took a 3-2 series lead.
The series shifted back to St. Louis with the Milwaukee up 3-2, and amidst two rain delays in Game 6, the Cardinals romped 13-1 as catcher Darrell Porter and first baseman Keith Hernandez each hit two-run home runs.
Game 7 began as a pitcher’s duel, but St. Louis took the lead for good with three runs in the sixth, and the Cardinals won 6-3 to claim their 9th World Series title, first since 1967.  St. Louis Wins 4-3
