A.L. MVP Watch - Prince Fielder, 1B, Detroit Tigers.  He leads the A.L. in batting with a .429 average, has 17 RBI and three home runs, and nine RBI over the last four games.
N.L. MVP Watch - John Buck, C, New York Mets.  Hit HRs in 4 consecutive games last week including a grand slam Friday and has 6 HRs and an N.L. leading 19 RBI.

Fantasy Spin - Cleveland pitcher Justin Masterson is off to an incredibly fast start, winning his first three starts and striking out 20 batters.  History shows that he can't keep up this ridiculous pace, but fantasy owners should ride the wave while it's there or try and trade him on the high side now.  It's still early in the season and 3 starts are not a true indication of how the rest of the year will go, but he's just 28 years old and is coming off a season where he threw 200 innings and 11 wins, so maybe, just maybe he could top 15 wins this year which would be a huge plus for any team that holds onto him.

News & Notes - Wrigley Field, the historic home of the Chicago Cubs, will receive a $500 million face lift, including it's first electronic outfield video board as part of the team and city's plan to upgrade baseball's second oldest stadium and pump revenue into a team that wants to win in the worst way.

Padre’s outfielder Carlos Quentin dropped his appeal and will serve an 8-game suspension for charging the mound last Thursday that resulted in a broken collarbone for Dodger's starter Zach Greinke.

The Cubs tied a major league record with 5 wild pitches in Sunday's game with San Francisco.

Record Watch - Barry Zito, Matt Moore, Jake Westbrook & Paul Maholm each have a 0.00 Earned Run Average this season in 3 starts, and no starting pitcher in the modern era has posted an ERA lower than 1.00.

History - Team History - A.L. Central -  Detroit Tigers
The Tigers are one of the 8 charter franchises in the American League and started playing in Detroit in 1884.  They are the oldest one-name, one-city franchise in the American League.  They've won 11 American League pennants and won four World Series, in 1935, 1945, 1968 &  1984, and have 20 former players inducted into the Hall of Fame, most notably Ty Cobb, Mickey Cochrane, Sam Crawford, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, Al Kaline, Eddie Matthews and Al Simmons.  In 2012, third baseman Miguel Cabrera became the ninth A.L. player to win the batting Triple Crown, and the first since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 for the Boston Red Sox.

Trivia - Today’s Question – What is the live ball era record (post 1920) for lowest E.R.A. by a starting pitcher in one season with a minimum 20 starts?

Yesterday’s Question - The Washington Nationals are one of two teams never to have played in a World Series.  What is the other team?
Answer – The Seattle Mariners, who began play in 1969.
