History
– Arizona Diamondbacks Team History
The Diamondbacks
joined the National League in 1998 and became the fastest expansion team to win
a World Series when they beat the New York Yankees in 2001 in seven games. The team retired their first player number in
2010 when they honored outfielder Luis Gonzalez by retiring his number 20. Gonzalez is the team’s all-time leader in
games played, at-bats, hits, runs, doubles, home runs, runs batted in, walks
& slugging percentage. He famously
drove in the game-winning run in game 7 of the 2001 World Series with a bloop single
over the drawn-in infield, and the team keeps the bat he used and the ball he
hit in a case at their stadium for fans to see.
The
Diamondbacks play their home games in downtown Phoenix in a magnificent
ballpark called Chase Field that nets plenty of sunshine and has a pool in
right center field for the fans to enjoy.
It’s a great place to watch a game, and here are a few pictures from when
I toured the stadium a few years ago.
Trivia
– Today’s
Question – Luis Gonzalez also holds the Diamondbacks record for most home runs
hit in one season. How many did he hit?
Friday’s
Yesterday’s Question - Before Albert Pujols of the
Cardinals won the N.L. MVP in 2005, 2008 & 2009, who was the last Cardinals
player to win the award?
Answer
– Willie
McGhee in 1985
