Cleveland fans were treated to a wild series finale
as the Indians walked off winners for the third time in the four game series
when Yan Gomes hit a three-run homer in the tenth after failing to get a bunt
down twice in the at-bat. The Indians blew
a ninth inning lead only to stay alive thanks to two Seattle errors late and
have won five in a row and eight of ten and lead the A.L. Central by 2.5 games.

Blue Jays 7 Tampa Bay 5
R.A. Dickey won his second straight start as he pitched
into the eighth and Edwin Encarnacion hit a bases loaded double in the seventh
to lead the Blue Jays at home.
New
York Yankees 6 Baltimore Orioles 4 (10
innings)
Travis Hafner homered with one out in the ninth to
tie the game and the Yankees rallied for two runs in the tenth to beat the
Orioles in Baltimore. Robinson Cano hit
his 13th home run earlier in the game and Mariano Rivera saved his
ML-leading 17th game.
Atlanta

Julio Teheran came within two outs of hurling a
complete game shutout at home and Dan Uggla belted a three-run homer as the
Braves handed the Twins their sixth straight loss.
Miami Marlins 5 Philadelphia Phillies 1
Justin Ruggiano and Nick Green had two RBI apiece as
the Marlins beat the Phillies for the fourth time in five games this year,
tagging Philadelphia starter Cole Hamels for seven hits and dropping his record
to 1-7.
Cincinnati
Reds 4 New York Mets 3
Jay Bruce homered in the sixth for his third
round-tripper in his last four games to make Johnny Cueto a winner in his first
game back from the DL as the Reds won in New York.
Oakland
Athletics 9 Texas Rangers 2
Coco Crisp had three hits, Seth Smith hit a home run,
drove in two runs, and scored three times, and Bartolo Colon pitched seven
effective innings for his fourth win as the A’s beat up the Rangers in Texas.
Chicago
White Sox 6 Boston Red Sox 4
Adam Dunn hit a three-run home run in the first off
John Lester and the White Sox were on their way to beating Boston at home and
handing Lester his first loss of the season.
Los
Angeles Dodgers 3 Milwaukee Brewers 1
Clayton Kershaw allowed just three hits in his
second complete game of the year and Matt Kemp and Andre Either supplied the
offense with home runs as the Dodgers won in Milwaukee.

Matt Dominguez hit a three-run homer and Jason
Castro knocked a solo shot out of the park as the Astros beat Kansas City at
home.
Arizona
Diamondbacks 5 Colorado Rockies 1
Patrick Corbin improved to 7-0 by tossing a complete
game gem, striking out ten and giving up three hits while Didi Gregorius and
Eric Chavez each had three hits for Arizona as the won at home.
San
Diego Padres 4 St. Louis Cardinals 2
Jason Marquis and four relievers combined to beat
Shelby Miller and the Cardinals in San Diego.

Ryan Vogelsong won his second game but broke his
pitching hand in fifth inning at-bat, and Brandon Belt had four hits as the
Giants blanked the Nationals in San Francisco.

– Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 against the Detroit Tigers
Pittsburgh won
their first World Series title and handed the Tigers their third consecutive
World Series loss by defeating them in seven games thanks to shortstop Honus
Wagner who led them with a .339 batting average and 100 RBI. He hit .333 in the seven games with six
stolen bases and seven RBI. Pittsburgh pitcher
Babe Adams won three games in the series (all six-hitters), including game
seven when he blanked the Tigers 8-0. Hall-of-Famers
in the series included for the Pirates shortstop Wagner, pitcher Vic Willis,
and outfielder/manager Fred Clarke; and for the Tigers outfielders Ty Cobb and
Sam Crawford.
