Here’s what’s happening in baseball:
Yesterday’s Games 5/15

The
Yankees patiently waited for Felix Hernandez to leave the game after dominating

History - 1905 World Series
Winner: New York Giants 4-1 against
the Philadelphia Athletics.
The Giants agreed to appear in the
1905 World Series one year after refusing to acknowledge the newly formed American
League, and easily handled the Philadelphia Athletics in an agreed upon best of
seven game series, with all four wins by shutout. Giant’s ace Christy Mathewson won three of
the four games. Mathewson would go on to
win 373 games and a hall of fame career.
This was the first World Series to set a seven game limit, and is the only
World Series where all the games were shutouts. In fact, only one reliever was
used in the entire series, and unbelievably the Giants gave up zero earned
runs, something that will probably never be duplicated again. Hall of famers in this series include for the
Giants: Manager John McGraw, catcher Roger Bresnahan, and pitchers Christy
Mathewson and Joe McGinnity; and for the A’s Manager Connie Mack, pitchers
Chief Bender, Eddie Plank and Rube Waddle (did not play).
News
& Notes: Los
Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke comes off the DL today to start against
the Nationals after nearly five weeks rehabbing a broken left collarbone
suffered in a fight with Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin.
Yankees all-star outfielder Curtis Granderson came
off the DL Tuesday and hit cleanup, going 1-3 with a walk.
